Junior Electronic Engineer
Primary responsibility is to tune RF microwave amplifier Substrate assemblies that are fabricated by Chip (component DIE) and Wire-bond techniques. The applicant will also work with Engineering in the generation of all documentation needed to produce the end item.
The microwave amplifiers are typically built on a 0.25” x 0.25” Substrate, and typically contain 1, 2 or 3 FETs. In addition, various substrate assemblies will contain MMIC amplifiers. The tuning involves changing the number of, and also the physical attributes of 0.7 mil and 1 mil wire-bond interconnects, along with passive component values. Familiarity with the operation and biasing of microwave FETs are a plus. The amplifiers are generally low to medium gain ranging from 10 dB to 20 dB, and typically operate from 500MHz to 18GHz. There are occasions when the amplifiers operate from 18 GHz to 40GHz.
Due to the small geometries involved the tuning is done under a medium power binocular Microscope in a Clean Room environment. Once the individual amplifier substrates are tuned they are then assembled into a 4 to 10 unit cascade made up of amplifiers and other interconnecting passive substrate assemblies. The technician will tune this composite amplifier for specification RF parameters such as frequency flatness, return loss, overall gain, and output saturation and distortion characteristics. Familiarity with the associated specification terminology and measurement parameters such as dB power ratio are a must.
The candidate must be familiar with the operation and use of microwave test equipment such as sweep signal generators, network analyzers, power meters, oscilloscopes, and synthesized microwave signal sources. US CITIZENSHIP REQUIRED, MUST BE ABLE TO OBTAIN DOD SECRET CLEARANCE.
